An optimized 3D model is one that can be used within real-time applications (i.e. unity and unreal engines) seamlessly and while maintaining its quality and accuracy. Building an optimized real-time 3D model is both costly and time consuming. There is a complex workflow that requires multiple iterations within several different software applications to accomplish this task, often involving multiple artists. It is something that takes years of experience to truly master. This is without even mentioning the rapid changes in technology which take place within this industry that add complexity to the process.
